Our client, a leading independent freight company specialising in European logistics and freight solutions, is looking for a part-time Customs Clerk to join their team based near Ipswich. As  Customs Clerk you will be responsible for arranging a variety of customs declarations for key clients, ensuring prompt processing to maintain a high level of service, focussing mainly on European Road Freight and deep sea ocean freight clearances.This is a part-time position, working 24 hours per week; Monday, 8am to 5pm (with one hour lunch), and, two separate shifts Tuesday to Friday, 8am to 9:30am, then 2:30pm to 5pm.Previous experience is essential for this role, along with a good understanding of Customs legal requirements and the impact of incorrect information and/or Customs declarations - extensive customs knowledge would be an advantage.You will need strong communication skills both written and verbal, as you will be required to compile documentation and be able to interpret the legal requirements on behalf of customers in a clear and simple way, whilst dealing with various agencies on a daily basis.Responsibilities of the Customs Clerk: Work as part of a team, completing Export & Import entries on the in-house system.Aiding clients on the classification of goods and their importance.Entering details onto specialised freight and Customs software, including CNS, Destin8, Multifreight/Multished.Preparation and procession of necessary import/export documentation and declarations as well as the discharge process of T-documents, etc.Liaise with Port Health or Customs officials in areas such as document checks, goods quarantine, etc.Dealing with general enquiries from importers/exporters, concerning all areas relating to Customs Procedures, Tariff Classifications, Duty Rates and any other documentation requirements.Keeping up to date with changes in regulations, laws and customs procedures.
