This full-time locum opportunity offers an initial 6-month contract with the potential for ongoing work. You’ll join the Adult Services Occupational Therapy and Specialist Assessment Team, supporting adults with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and learning disabilities to live as independently as possible within their own homes and communities.

What you will do:

• Assess adults with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and learning disabilities to identify their Occupational Therapy needs.
• Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments and reviews.
• Evaluate, recommend, and review appropriate equipment and aids to promote independence and safety.
• Assess and provide recommendations for both minor and major adaptations to individuals’ living environments.
• Conduct complex manual handling assessments and develop appropriate recommendations.
• Review the effectiveness and outcomes of interventions to ensure they continue to meet service users’ needs.
• Empower individuals to maintain independence and remain safely in their own homes wherever possible.
• Identify opportunities to reduce reliance on formal care packages through preventative and strengths-based interventions.
• Develop tailored, person-centred interventions that enhance independence, wellbeing, and quality of life.
• Manage a demanding caseload with a high degree of professional autonomy.
• Work collaboratively with service users, carers, colleagues, and other professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive records, reports, assessments, and case documentation.
• Ensure all interventions and recommendations comply with relevant professional standards, policies, and procedures.

Essential requirements:

• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Significant experience within Adult Social Care Occupational Therapy.
• Experience assessing adults with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and learning disabilities.
• Proven experience undertaking equipment and adaptations assessments.
• Experience carrying out complex manual handling assessments.
• Ability to manage a demanding caseload independently and effectively.
• Strong analytical, clinical reasoning, and professional decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong report-writing and documentation abilities.
• Commitment to promoting independence and person-centred practice.

Desirable requirements:

• Previous experience working within a Local Authority environment.
• Familiarity with Adult Services Occupational Therapy teams.
• Experience managing complex adaptation cases.
• Proven experience supporting independence and preventative approaches within Adult Social Care.
