Role Overview

An excellent locum opportunity is available for an experienced Social Worker to join the Duty & Assessment Team in Bury. This role offers a competitive hourly rate of £36–£39, depending on experience, and provides the flexibility of a 30‑hour working week condensed into four days. You will be part of a supportive environment where your expertise is valued, and your contribution makes a meaningful impact on children and families across the community.

As part of Bury Council’s frontline safeguarding service, you will carry out assessments, work collaboratively with partner agencies, and support families to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes. Applicants must be at least three years post‑qualified.

Key Responsibilities / What You Will Do

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of children and families to identify needs and levels of risk.
  • Develop effective intervention strategies through collaboration with other professionals and partner agencies.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely reports and documentation.
  • Prioritise safeguarding and ensure children’s welfare is at the centre of all decisions.
  • Support families to achieve positive change and progress towards independence.

Requirements / Candidate Criteria

Essential

  • Qualified Social Worker with recognised Social Work degree or equivalent.
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Minimum 3 years post‑qualified experience.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and statutory responsibilities.
  • Excellent assessment, analysis, and report‑writing skills.
  • Experience working in safeguarding, assessment, or duty teams.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a Duty & Assessment Team.
  • Familiarity with local authority case management systems.
  • Strong multi‑agency working experience.
