Role Overview

An excellent opportunity has become available for a skilled Social Worker to join Cafcass as a Family Court Advisor in Bournemouth. This role sits at the heart of the family justice system, ensuring children’s voices are heard and their welfare prioritised throughout legal proceedings.

Working in both public and private law cases, you will provide expert assessments, present evidence to the courts, and collaborate with families and multi‑agency partners. Key Responsibilities / What You Will Do

  • Conduct comprehensive safeguarding assessments to support court decision‑making.
  • Represent the child’s voice and best interests in public and private law proceedings.
  • Interview and engage directly with children to understand their wishes and feelings.
  • Prepare detailed reports and recommendations for court hearings.
  • Identify safeguarding risks such as domestic abuse, neglect, or emotional harm.
  • Work collaboratively with local authorities, legal teams, and multi‑agency partners.
  • Provide expert testimony in court when required.
  • Maintain accurate, timely case records in line with legal and organisational standards.
  • Participate in strategy discussions, multi‑agency safeguarding work, and case reviews.

Requirements / Candidate Criteria

Essential

  • Qualified Social Worker with recognised Social Work qualification (BA/MA or equivalent).
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience in children’s services, safeguarding, or court‑related social work.
  • Strong understanding of children’s legislation and statutory responsibilities.
  • Excellent analytical, assessment, and report‑writing skills.
  • Confident in multi‑agency working and representing the child’s voice.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working with Cafcass or within family court proceedings.
  • Knowledge of public and private law frameworks.
  • Experience presenting evidence or attending court hearings.
