What you will do: - Perform a wide range of Blood Science methodologies using both automated and manual processes. - Participate in molecular techniques according to standard operating procedures. - Retain and develop high levels of specialist Blood Science knowledge for interpreting complex patient investigations. - Maintain meticulous manual dexterity skills for accurate processing and analysis. - Interpret clinical information for the detection and/or identification of diseases. - Plan workloads efficiently to meet laboratory handbook turn-around times. - Concentrate for extended periods to avoid transcription errors when entering data onto the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and perform second checks as required. - Assist in planned research and development to trial new assays or equipment as required. - Collaborate with the Research Department on preparing, storing, and testing specimens for clinical trials. - Stay engaged with scientific and technical developments including evaluating new methodologies and commercial assays. - Ensure correct and timely data back-up procedures are followed. - Refer samples to reference laboratories in compliance with transport regulations. - Help organise staffing and workload in the absence of senior colleagues to meet turn-around times. - Liaise with managers if workloads exceed capacity, ensuring timely testing and analysis. - Work within containment level 3 laboratories while adhering to enhanced biosafety and health & safety requirements. - Contribute to special interest sections as required and participate in capillary phlebotomy collection. - Engage in lone working when participating in 24/7 working. To be considered for this position, you must have HCPC registration and a relevant qualification in biomedical science or an equivalent qualification, along with post-qualifying experience in the field.
