Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) Officer to assess, process, and manage Disabled Facilities Grant applications, enabling disabled and vulnerable residents to live safely and independently in their own homes. You will work closely with Occupational Therapists, contractors, surveyors, and residents to deliver high-quality home adaptations while ensuring compliance with relevant housing legislation and grant policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and process Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) and Minor Adaptation applications.
- Interpret Occupational Therapist recommendations and prepare schedules of work for home adaptations.
- Conduct property inspections, surveys, and financial means assessments.
- Prepare specifications, drawings, cost estimates, and monitor adaptation works through to completion.
- Ensure compliance with the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act, Building Regulations, and Health & Safety requirements.
- Liaise with residents, contractors, architects, and internal teams to deliver adaptation projects effectively.
- Provide advice on housing grants, government benefits, and accessible housing solutions.
- Maintain accurate case records and deliver excellent customer service to vulnerable adults and families.
Essential Requirements
- Experience administering Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) within a local authority or housing environment.
- Ability to interpret Occupational Therapist recommendations and prepare adaptation schedules.
- Knowledge of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act, Building Regulations, and Health & Safety legislation.
- Experience conducting property surveys, financial means testing, and managing home adaptation projects.
- Strong understanding of residential building construction and accessible design.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and organisational skills.
- Experience working with vulnerable adults and children.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases, and undertake lone working when required.
