What you will do

  • Deliver specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment for patients requiring stroke and neurological rehabilitation.
  • Manage complex inpatient neurorehabilitation caseloads efficiently and effectively.
  • Conduct comprehensive functional, cognitive, and discharge assessments.
  • Coordinate patient care and rehabilitation programmes with a person-centred approach.
  • Develop personalised treatment plans and set achievable rehabilitation goals.
  • Support safe and efficient discharge planning and community transitions.
  • Undertake home visits, access visits, and community follow-up when appropriate.
  • Prescribe and recommend essential equipment, adaptations, and support services.
  • Collaborate closely with Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dietitians, as well as Nursing and Medical teams.
  • Liaise with social care services, community organisations, and voluntary sector providers.
  • Participate in a 7-day rehabilitation service, including weekend shifts.
  • Supervise and support junior Occupational Therapists, Therapy Technicians, and support staff.
  • Complete audits, outcome measures, and contribute to service improvement projects.
  • Provide specialist stroke and neurorehabilitation advice to colleagues and members of the multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Qualification: A qualification in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration.
  • Experience: Experience in Stroke Rehabilitation and Neurorehabilitation.
  • Inpatient rehabilitation: Proficient in managing inpatient rehabilitation and complex discharge planning.
  • Caseload management: Ability to independently manage a specialist caseload.
  • Multidisciplinary working: Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and advanced clinical reasoning skills.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

Desirable Requirements

  • Band 7 experience: Experience as a Band 7 Occupational Therapist.
  • Rehabilitation systems: Familiarity with bedded rehabilitation services and the RiO patient record system.
  • Community experience: Experience undertaking home visits and in community follow-up roles.
  • Service improvement: History of conducting audits and developing services.
  • Supervision: Proven ability in providing clinical supervision and conducting appraisals.
