What you will do:

• Enforce food standards legislation through thorough inspections, investigations, and sampling at trading premises across Gloucestershire.
• Investigate regulatory offences and implement actions as per the Council’s Enforcement Policy, including conducting formal interviews under PACE 1984 and relevant laws.
• Prepare case reports for potential prosecution and represent the Council in legal proceedings when necessary.
• Sample goods and services to identify breaches in trading standards legislation and take appropriate enforcement actions.
• Advise businesses and traders on their legal responsibilities in relation to trading standards legislation.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of all investigative and enforcement activities.
• Adapt your enforcement activities to align with the varied trading hours of businesses.
• Commit to personal development to keep up-to-date with changes in relevant legislation and ensure quick implementation.
• Adhere to the Employees’ Codes of Conduct, ensuring awareness of obligations around conflicts of interest, gifts, hospitality, and related matters.
• Perform other duties related to this post as required from time to time.

Qualifications & Education:

• Essential: Relevant Trading Standards Qualification including food-specific papers where applicable.
