This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Social Worker Practitioner to join the Safeguarding Team at Birmingham Children’s Trust. You will work with children and families facing significant safeguarding concerns, contributing to high‑quality statutory interventions and positive outcomes.

What you will do

  • Manage a complex caseload of children subject to Child Protection (CP) and Child in Need (CIN) plans.
  • Undertake statutory assessments, including Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries.
  • Lead safeguarding investigations and implement effective risk management strategies.
  • Prepare high‑quality court reports and provide evidence within legal proceedings when required.
  • Develop, implement, and review outcome‑focused care and protection plans.
  • Work collaboratively with multi‑agency partners including police, health, and education services.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and professional support to Newly Qualified Social Workers and less experienced practitioners.
  • Contribute to audits, case reviews, and quality assurance activity across the safeguarding service.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant case recording in line with statutory requirements.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Minimum 3+ years post‑qualified experience in children’s safeguarding social work.
  • Strong experience in Child Protection, CIN, and court‑related work.
  • In‑depth knowledge of safeguarding legislation, including the Children Act 1989/2004.
  • Ability to manage high‑risk and complex cases independently.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and report‑writing skills.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience at Senior Social Worker or Senior Practitioner level.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff.
  • Practice Educator qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience working within a large local authority or children’s trust.
