What you will do

  • Case Management: Manage a complex caseload within the Fostering Kinship Team.
  • Assessments: Complete Connected Persons Assessments, Kinship Foster Care Assessments, and Special Guardianship Assessments.
  • Viability Assessments: Undertake viability assessments for family and friends carers.
  • Carer Support: Provide supervision, guidance, and ongoing support to approved kinship foster carers and Special Guardians.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure carers continue to meet fostering standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Support Planning: Develop and review support plans that promote stability and positive outcomes for children.
  • Fostering Panels: Prepare high-quality reports and contribute to fostering panel processes.
  • Care Planning: Work closely with children’s social workers to support effective care planning and permanence.
  • Permanency Planning: Promote kinship arrangements as a positive permanence option where appropriate.
  • Reviews and Visits: Complete statutory visits, annual reviews, and support plan reviews.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and timely case records using the council’s electronic systems.
  • Practice Leadership: Support, mentor, and guide less experienced colleagues.
  • Service Improvement: Contribute to ongoing service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Social Work Qualification: Degree in Social Work or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Registration: Current Social Work England registration.
  • Experience: Significant experience within Children’s Services, fostering, kinship care, or permanency services.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Strong understanding of fostering regulations, kinship care legislation, safeguarding frameworks, and Special Guardianship.
  • Assessment Skills: Experience completing complex assessments and producing high-quality reports.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Mentoring Skills: Ability to support and develop less experienced practitioners.
  • Organisational Skills: Strong case management and workload prioritisation skills.
