Role Overview

An exciting locum opportunity is available for a Senior Practitioner to join the Assessment Team within Redcar & Cleveland’s Children’s Services. This ongoing role offers a competitive hourly rate of £32.97 and the flexibility to work part‑time or full‑time.

As a Senior Practitioner, you will play a key leadership role in managing complex assessments, overseeing safeguarding interventions, and supporting social workers in delivering high‑quality, child‑centred practice. You will collaborate with multi‑agency partners to ensure the best outcomes for children and families across the region.

Key Responsibilities / What You Will Do

  • Lead and manage a caseload of complex children’s assessments and interventions.
  • Conduct detailed assessments using a range of tools to inform decision‑making.
  • Develop child‑centred care plans that address identified needs and risks.
  • Provide reflective supervision, guidance, and mentoring to less experienced social workers.
  • Work collaboratively with education, health, housing, and other agencies to promote holistic support.
  • Prepare high‑quality reports for safeguarding meetings, legal proceedings, and statutory reviews.
  • Safeguard children by taking appropriate action in response to identified risks.
  • Contribute to service development initiatives, promoting best practice within the Assessment Team.
  • Maintain accurate records and produce timely reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements / Candidate Criteria

Essential

  • Recognised Social Work qualification.
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Extensive post‑qualification experience within Children’s Services.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and statutory frameworks.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring social work staff.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and report‑writing skills.

Desirable

  • Experience within front‑door, assessment, or MASH teams.
  • Experience in service development and quality improvement.
  • Additional leadership or management training.
