Purpose of Job:
- Collaborate directly with senior staff at designated schools to ensure the Local Authority (LA) meets legal requirements from the Children and Families Act 2014.
- Implement and coordinate the needs assessment and review process as per the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEN Code of Practice 2015.
- Address and support schools, professionals, and families to prevent legal challenges against the LA.
- Manage a complex caseload and casework to respond to the evolving needs of SEND children and young people.
- Develop aspirational and outcome-focused EHC Plans compliant with the Code of Practice 2015.
- Manage a case coordinator by allocating, monitoring, and overseeing their daily work.
What you will do:
- Engage with parents, carers, children, and young people to ensure a transparent and collaborative needs assessment process.
- Partner with schools, providing guidance and challenge in the assessment and review processes.
- Co-produce EHC plans with families, ensuring compliance and minimizing legal risks to the LA.
- Support the development of aspirations and outcomes for children and young people’s plans.
- Negotiate school placements for pupils with EHC Plans and handle potentially contentious situations to mitigate legal challenges.
- Coordinate with Health providers, social care, and other professionals to foster professional contributions to EHC Plans.
- Represent SEND Assessment in exchanges regarding the annual reviews of children and young people looked after by Royal Greenwich.
Requirements:
- Educational qualifications equivalent to ‘A’ level, including good GCSEs in English.
- Experience with SEND processes within a local authority.
- Experience working with educational establishments such as nurseries, schools, or colleges.
- Comprehensive knowledge of primary, secondary, or further education systems and SEND reforms.
- Proficient in using word processing packages, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage various stakeholders effectively.
- Ability to manage and prioritise workloads, demonstrating resilience under pressure.
