Housing Disrepair Lawyer
Location: Harlow, Essex
Pay: £45–£55 per hour Umbrella, depending on experience
Contract: Temporary
Seven Resourcing are currently recruiting for an experienced Housing Disrepair Lawyer to join a local authority legal team on a temporary basis.
The role will focus on providing legal advice and representation in relation to housing disrepair claims, supporting the council in managing claims effectively and ensuring matters are handled in accordance with relevant legislation, procedures and legal requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified legal professional with experience in housing law, property litigation or disrepair claims who is comfortable managing a varied caseload and working with internal departments and external parties.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of housing disrepair claims and litigation matters.
- Provide clear and practical legal advice on housing disrepair issues.
- Advise colleagues on legal risks, potential liabilities and appropriate courses of action.
- Review claims, evidence, reports and supporting documentation.
- Assess the merits of claims and develop appropriate case strategies.
- Draft and review legal correspondence, pleadings, statements and other documentation.
- Liaise with tenants, solicitors, counsel, experts and other relevant parties.
- Work closely with housing, property, repairs and asset management teams.
- Support the resolution of claims through negotiation, settlement or litigation where appropriate.
- Ensure cases are progressed within relevant deadlines and in accordance with legal procedures.
- Maintain accurate case records and provide updates on the progress of matters.
- Keep up to date with relevant housing legislation, case law and procedural requirements.
- Provide advice and support on wider housing and property-related legal matters where required.
About You
The successful Housing Disrepair Lawyer will have:
- Qualified solicitor or barrister status, or relevant equivalent legal experience.
- Strong experience in housing law and housing disrepair claims.
- Experience managing a caseload of contentious housing or property matters.
- Knowledge of relevant housing legislation and civil litigation procedures.
- Experience providing legal advice within a local authority, housing association or similar organisation would be advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
- Strong negotiation and case management skills.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with wider teams.
Experience of working within a local authority legal department or dealing with claims involving housing repairs, damp and mould, property condition or tenant disrepair would be particularly beneficial.
