What you will do:

  • Chair Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences in line with statutory guidance, ensuring meetings are child-centred, inclusive, and focused on risk analysis and outcomes.
  • Scrutinise assessments, threshold decisions, and child protection plans to ensure they are proportionate, robust, and address identified risks.
  • Promote the meaningful participation of children, young people, and families, ensuring their views, wishes, and feelings inform decision-making.
  • Provide independent challenge to social care and partner agencies where practice, drift, or delay is identified, using formal escalation processes where required.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Degree in Social Work or equivalent professional qualification, such as CQSW or DipSW. Post-qualifying training in child protection or safeguarding practice.
  • Registration and Compliance: Must be registered with Social Work England. A strong working knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and relevant safeguarding legislation and guidance is required.
  • Experience: Significant post-qualifying experience in children’s social care, with substantial child protection experience. Proven experience of chairing complex meetings and working at a senior or advanced practitioner level. Experience of multi-agency working within a local authority safeguarding context.
