This locum position offers a competitive hourly salary of up to £27.00, running for three months, from 21st September 2026 to 21st December 2026. With working hours from 09:00 to 17:30, Monday to Friday, you will have your evenings and weekends free to explore the beautiful county of Dorset.

What you will do:

• Perform specialist microbiology laboratory investigations.
• Process, analyse, and interpret microbiology specimens proficiently.
• Validate and report laboratory results for accurate diagnosis and monitoring.
• Support the diagnosis and monitoring of infectious diseases.
• Operate and maintain microbiology laboratory equipment effectively.
• Participate actively in quality control and assurance procedures.
• Ensure compliance with advanced laboratory protocols and standards.
• Maintain accurate and thorough laboratory records and documentation.
• Support the delivery of an efficient clinical microbiology service.
• Work collaboratively with pathology and clinical teams to enhance service delivery.

Requirements:

• Degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent with HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
• Specialist experience in microbiology.
• Proven experience working within NHS microbiology laboratories.
• Ability to independently process and analyse microbiology samples.
• Experience validating and reporting detailed laboratory results.
• Knowledge of laboratory quality assurance procedures for maintaining high standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Previous experience as a Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist.
• Experience within Clinical Pathology services.
• Experience supporting service development and audit activities.
