What you will do

  • Conduct assessments and make decisions under the Mental Health Act 1983.
  • Act as a key member of the Mental Health Act assessment team, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and best practice guidelines.
  • Collaborate with individuals, families, carers, and relevant professionals to formulate care plans and provide appropriate support.
  • Advocate for the rights and preferences of individuals within the legal framework.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to individuals experiencing mental health crises.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, decisions, and interventions.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to the development of holistic care plans.
  • Keep abreast of changes in mental health legislation and participate in ongoing professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Registration with a relevant professional body, such as Social Work England.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a mental health setting, specifically in a statutory mental health service.
  • Strong understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and associated legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and teams.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and in complex situations.
  • Commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of individuals with mental health needs.
  • This role involves working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and may require participation in on-call duties.
  • Safeguarding roles are subject to Safer Recruitment and will require a full 5 years’ proven work history and Enhanced DBS.
