Seven Resourcing is currently looking for an experienced Independent Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) to join a specialist alcohol and drug treatment service in Mansfield on a full-time, two-month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Nurse or Pharmacist with current professional registration and independent prescribing status, alongside recent experience working within substance misuse services. You will play a key clinical role in delivering safe, evidence-based prescribing and recovery-focused interventions to people affected by drug and alcohol use.

The Role

As an Independent Non-Medical Prescriber, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess service users, develop treatment plans and provide specialist prescribing interventions.

You will have responsibility for initiating and reviewing opioid and alcohol substitute treatments, as well as other medication within your scope of practice. You will also act as a key source of prescribing expertise for colleagues and partner agencies.

The role will involve working closely with recovery workers, clinical colleagues and other professionals to ensure service users receive safe, coordinated and person-centred care.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake comprehensive clinical assessments and develop appropriate treatment and recovery plans.
• Independently prescribe and review medication in line with clinical guidelines, national standards and local protocols.
• Initiate and amend opioid substitution treatment and alcohol-related medication where clinically appropriate.
• Regularly review service users' medication and treatment plans to ensure they remain safe and effective.
• Assess service users for suitability for inpatient alcohol or opioid detoxification and make appropriate referrals.
• Provide clinical advice regarding prescribed, over-the-counter and illicit substances, including potential side effects and drug interactions.
• Support service users to understand and engage with their prescribed treatment and promote treatment concordance.
• Assess and respond appropriately to complex, urgent or emergency clinical situations.
• Identify mental health needs and make appropriate referrals to relevant services.
• Support health promotion, harm reduction, BBV screening, vaccination and immunisation initiatives.
• Work collaboratively with Recovery Coordinators and the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Provide specialist prescribing advice to colleagues and external partner agencies.
• Maintain accurate, comprehensive and contemporaneous clinical records.
• Contribute to safeguarding assessments and ensure appropriate action is taken where concerns arise.
• Identify and manage clinical risks within your area of responsibility.
• Participate in clinical audit, service evaluation and quality improvement activity.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of prescribing services.
• Maintain professional competence through clinical supervision, peer support and continuing professional development.
• Support colleagues through knowledge sharing, training and professional guidance where appropriate.

Essential Requirements

• Current registration with the NMC or GPhC.
• Qualified as an Independent Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP).
• Nurses must hold a current NMC PIN and have substantial post-registration experience.
• Pharmacists must hold current GPhC registration and relevant post-qualification experience.
• At least one year's recent and relevant experience within substance misuse services.
• Strong knowledge of clinical prescribing and medication management.
• Understanding of drug and alcohol treatment, harm reduction and health promotion.
• Knowledge of the physical, psychological and social issues associated with substance misuse.
• Experience assessing service users and developing appropriate recovery-focused treatment plans.
• Ability to interpret relevant clinical and medical test results.
