As a statutory role with the primary purpose of safeguarding children and young people at risk, you will also take on critical statutory duties and responsibilities as defined by legislation and guidance related to Children’s Social Care. You'll be supporting families and children experiencing or at risk of significant harm, and facilitating changes that secure safe, permanent homes for children.
What you will do:
- Work directly with children, young people, and families in various settings to ensure their voices are central to all casework.
- Deliver recognised support packages and engagement tools to achieve positive outcomes, involving travel, lifting, and occasional lone working.
- Build effective relationships using evidence-based social work approaches to support change within tight deadlines and conflicting demands.
- Undertake assessments to determine need and risk, planning for outcomes and applying understanding of risk factors affecting child welfare.
- Conduct timely and accurate case recording in accordance with practice standards and data protection policies.
- Participate in court work, potentially giving evidence on behalf of the Local Authority.
- Engage positively in supervision and practice development activities.
Essential qualifications/knowledge:
- Degree or higher qualification in Social Work with registration from a relevant professional regulatory body.
- Knowledge of legislative frameworks for child and family social work.
Desirable qualifications/knowledge:
- Experience with child and family social work in a statutory setting, understanding of child development, and ability to assess risk and need.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to build effective relationships, and strong time management skills.
- Resilience and strategies for managing challenging and sometimes distressing situations in home environments.
