Seven Resourcing is currently recruiting for an experienced Principal Social Worker to join an Intake and Assessment team within Cardiff Council’s People & Communities Directorate.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly skilled Senior Social Worker, Advanced Practitioner, or Principal Social Worker with strong experience in Child Protection, Intake & Assessment, and Safeguarding Social Work to take on a leadership role within a fast-paced and dynamic service.

The Intake and Assessment team in Cardiff is a busy and progressive service, working with a diverse population and managing complex safeguarding concerns. The team delivers high-quality, timely interventions to support children and families at the earliest stage of need.

Role Overview
As Principal Social Worker, you will play a key leadership role within the Intake and Assessment team, supporting practice development, performance improvement, and safeguarding outcomes. You will hold a protected caseload while also providing professional guidance, supervision, and support to social workers within the team.

You will work closely with the Team Manager to embed the Signs of Safety approach and ensure consistently high standards of practice across assessments and interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry a protected caseload of complex Intake and Assessment cases
  • Undertake Well-being assessments and Section 47 (S47) Child Protection enquiries
  • Lead on practice development and quality assurance within the team
  • Provide supervision and professional support to social workers
  • Support the implementation of the Signs of Safety practice model
  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to safeguard children
  • Contribute to strategy discussions, planning meetings, and case conferences
  • Support short-term interventions aimed at improving family safety and outcomes
  • Assist in developing and improving service delivery and practice standards

Requirements

Essential:

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Care Wales registration
  • Significant post-qualifying experience in Children’s Services
  • Strong experience in Intake & Assessment, Safeguarding, or Child Protection
  • Proven ability to manage complex cases and make sound professional judgements
  • Experience supervising or mentoring social work staff
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and practice frameworks

Desirable:

  • Experience working within Signs of Safety model
  • Previous experience in a senior or advanced practitioner role
  • Strong multi-agency working experience
