Social Worker – Children’s Lower Grade (Early Help & Prevention)
Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire
Pay: £29.64 per hour (PAYE) / £38.00 per hour (Umbrella)
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Temporary (until 10 August 2026)
Start Date: 08 June 2026
Working Pattern: Flexible working with 3 days per week onsite

Seven Resourcing are currently recruiting for a Social Worker (Children’s Lower Grade) to join an Early Help and Prevention Service within a local authority in Portsmouth. This is a frontline family support role focused on delivering early intervention, reducing escalation to statutory services, and improving outcomes for children, young people, and their families.

The service works in a restorative and strengths-based way, supporting families to identify their own solutions and build sustainable change. You will work closely with multi-agency partners to deliver coordinated support, high challenge and high support, and positive long-term outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake holistic Early Help Assessments with children, young people, and families to identify needs and strengths
  • Develop and coordinate outcome-focused family support plans in collaboration with families and partner agencies
  • Deliver direct intervention work with individuals, families, and groups covering areas such as emotional wellbeing, behavioural challenges, substance misuse, healthy relationships, and family dynamics
  • Act as lead professional for allocated cases, coordinating multi-agency input through the Team Around the Family approach
  • Promote restorative practice principles to support families in identifying and achieving their own solutions
  • Provide information, advice, and guidance to support children and young people’s emotional, social, and personal development
  • Engage with schools, colleges, and community settings to deliver preventative support and early intervention
  • Ensure the voice of the child and family is central to all assessments, planning, and reviews
  • Represent the service at multi-agency meetings, case discussions, and community events where required
  • Maintain accurate, timely case records and provide feedback to referrers and partner agencies
  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation, policy changes, and local practice developments
  • Contribute to service performance targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) within Early Help services

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
  • Experience working within children’s services, Early Help, or family support settings
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child development, and multi-agency working
  • Experience of delivering direct intervention and strengths-based practice
  • Ability to manage a caseload and act as lead professional
  • Strong communication, assessment, and report writing skills
  • Commitment to restorative practice and improving outcomes for children and families
  • Flexibility to work 3 days per week onsite in Portsmouth
