Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 8a Advanced Critical Care Practitioner to join a high-performing Critical Care team in Guernsey. This role is open to Registered General Nurses or Pharmacists with advanced critical care expertise who are seeking to work in a challenging and rewarding environment.
You will provide advanced clinical care to critically ill patients while working closely with Consultant Intensivists and the wider multidisciplinary team. This position offers the opportunity to combine professional development with an exceptional island lifestyle.

Key Responsibilities
-
Undertake advanced clinical assessments of critically ill patients

Request, interpret, and act upon diagnostic investigations including blood gases, pathology, and medical imaging

Initiate, manage, and review complex treatment plans, ensuring high-quality clinical handovers

Perform advanced clinical procedures, including insertion of central lines, arterial lines, chest drains, and other invasive devices

Manage airway interventions, including drug-assisted endotracheal intubation
-
Adjust and manage mechanical ventilation and other respiratory support modalities
-
Perform point-of-care ultrasound examinations where trained and competent
-
Lead and support the multidisciplinary team, providing expert clinical guidance

Analyse and synthesise complex clinical information to support decision-making

Initiate emergency treatment plans and support inter- and intra-hospital patient transfers

Maintain professional accountability and adhere to legal and governance frameworks for advanced practice

Work in line with the FICM ACCP Curriculum and local clinical policies

Prescribe independently as a qualified Independent Non-Medical Prescriber

Apply evidence-based practice to all aspects of patient care
Essential Criteria

Registered General Nurse or Pharmacist with relevant professional registration

Significant post-registration experience in critical care

Advanced practice qualification aligned with Band 8a level

Independent Non-Medical Prescriber qualification

Strong knowledge of critical care physiology, diagnostics, and interventions

Proven ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team
