Purpose of the job: This vital role is suited for an experienced practitioner with at least three years of post-qualifying experience as a social worker. You will manage a caseload of complex and high-needs cases within a child protection context, taking initiatives to support both children and their families. Mentorship and support to other team practitioners will be a crucial part of your role, alongside representing the local authority in court when required. Through positive and respectful relationships with families, you'll work to ensure children grow up in safe, nurturing environments.

What you will do:

  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with children and families to fulfil their needs and improve outcomes.
  • Consistently apply the Signs of Safety practice model in assessing risks and leveraging strengths within family networks.
  • Undertake regular visits to build trust, understand child preferences and make informed decisions.
  • Work across diverse contexts including mental health, disability, substance misuse, and domestic issues to provide the best possible support.
  • Coordinate and implement care plans for children, continuously assessing and updating for evolving needs.
  • Represent the local authority professionally, especially in court and other agency interactions.
  • Engage in regular supervision and training, committed to ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Work collaboratively with family and professional networks to maximise support and care for young people.
  • Carry out child protection inquiries and assess risks, always prioritising children’s safety and well-being.
