Job Overview

Join the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham as a Senior Social Worker in the Family Support & Safeguarding Team, based at Barking & Dagenham. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a high-impact role within a supportive and dynamic children’s services team, earning £39.04 per hour.

The role offers excellent flexibility. Core hours are 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday, but there is real flexibility around start and finish times. Options include 8am–6pm across four days, 8am–4pm, 9am–6pm, and more. Part-time working is also considered, making this role ideal for balancing work and personal commitments.

What You Will Do

  • Undertake Core Assessments, pre-birth assessments, and risk assessments to ensure children’s safety and wellbeing.

  • Carry out Section 47 Child Protection investigations and prepare high-quality statements and reports for court.

  • Complete Section 7 and Section 37 reports, represent the local authority in court, and give evidence when required.

  • Conduct home visits to monitor situations, safeguard children, and ensure accurate and up-to-date case recording.

  • Convene and chair core group meetings, working closely with multi-agency partners.

  • Undertake joint investigations and interviews with the police, and initiate and oversee care proceedings.

  • Develop, implement, and review Care Plans, supervise contact, and write detailed case conference reports.

  • Attend strategy meetings, case conferences, and complete Child in Need plans where required.
