This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer to join Stockton‑on‑Tees Borough Council. You will play a pivotal role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in care, ensuring that care planning is robust, timely, and focused on achieving positive outcomes.

What you will do

  • Chair statutory reviews for Looked After Children, ensuring compliance with the IRO Handbook and statutory guidance.
  • Monitor the quality and progress of care planning and service delivery, advocating for children’s needs and rights.
  • Ensure care plans are outcome‑focused, timely, and effectively implemented.
  • Act as an independent advocate for children, challenging drift and escalating concerns when plans are not progressing appropriately.
  • Place the child’s voice, wishes, and feelings at the heart of all reviews and decision‑making.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and high‑quality records and reports.
  • Contribute to quality assurance activity and continuous improvement across Children’s Services.
  • Work collaboratively with social workers, carers, and partner agencies to ensure high standards of care.
