We are working with an Ofsted-rated Good SEND school in West Leicester who are looking for an enthusiastic Graduate STEM Outdoor Learning Mentor to join their team.

This is a unique opportunity for a graduate who wants to pursue a career in teaching and is excited by the idea of using practical, outdoor and woodland-based learning to engage students with SEND.

The Role

You'll work closely with the school's teaching and SEND teams, taking a lead on outdoor and woodland activities designed to engage students and support their wider development.

You'll use your STEM knowledge and enthusiasm for practical learning to create experiences that help students develop their confidence, independence, problem-solving skills and curiosity.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading engaging outdoor and woodland-based learning activities
• Using practical activities to support students' learning and development
• Bringing STEM concepts to life through hands-on experiences
• Supporting students with SEND to participate positively and safely
• Helping students develop confidence, independence and resilience
• Encouraging curiosity and interest in science, nature and the environment
• Adapting activities to meet individual students' needs and abilities
• Building positive and trusting relationships with students
• Working collaboratively with teachers and the wider SEND team
• Supporting students' social, emotional and communication development
• Developing your own understanding of effective teaching and learning

Who are we looking for?

This role would suit a high-achieving STEM graduate who is serious about pursuing a career in teaching.

You will have:

• A 2:1 degree or above from a leading university in a STEM-related subject
• A genuine ambition to progress into teaching
• A strong academic background and excellent subject knowledge
• An interest in outdoor, practical or experiential learning
• A genuine interest in supporting young people with SEND
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience, resilience and adaptability
• The confidence to lead activities and engage students
• A positive and enthusiastic approach to working with young people

Previous school or SEND experience is desirable but not essential.

Experience in tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, coaching, outdoor education or working with young people would be beneficial, but the school is particularly interested in graduates who demonstrate the academic ability, personality and ambition to develop into excellent teachers.
