We are delighted to offer an excellent opportunity for an experienced Advanced Practitioner to join the Children in Care (CiC) Reunification Team within Children’s Services in Newcastle. This ongoing role provides the flexibility of part‑time or full‑time hours and is a non‑caseholding position, allowing you to focus on practice development, complex assessments, and supporting reunification planning for children in care. Your expertise in risk assessment and management will be central to driving high‑quality, evidence‑based practice across the service.

What you will do

  • Complete and oversee specialist assessments, including parenting assessments, placement with parents assessments, and bespoke evaluations such as sibling attachment assessments.
  • Support the preparation of court work and the discharge of care orders, ensuring high‑quality reports and evidence.
  • Mentor and support social workers, strengthening confidence and competence in complex assessment processes.
  • Contribute specialist expertise to complex cases and produce detailed, analytical reports.
  • Influence and support service development through strategic planning and leadership input.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to promote consistent, high‑quality practice across the reunification pathway.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
  • Extensive experience in complex assessments, care proceedings, and court work.
  • Strong skills in risk assessment and risk management.
  • Proven ability to mentor and lead practice development.
  • Experience contributing to service development and strategic planning.
