Role overview

As a Recovery Worker, you will provide structured support and interventions to individuals experiencing substance misuse and complex needs within Heathrow IRC’s secure environment. You will play a vital role in promoting recovery through effective care planning and close collaboration with internal and external partners.

What you will do

  • Deliver recovery‑focused support and interventions to individuals within Heathrow IRC.
  • Conduct assessments, risk evaluations, and develop comprehensive recovery plans and review outcomes.
  • Provide harm‑reduction advice, brief interventions, and relapse prevention support.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential case records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, IRC or custodial staff, mental health teams, and external agencies.
  • Support safeguarding procedures and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Motivate individuals to engage with treatment programmes, wellbeing activities, and onward community support.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to positive recovery outcomes.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and trauma‑informed approaches throughout service delivery.

Qualifications / Requirements / Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience working within substance misuse, recovery, criminal justice, mental health, or supported housing services.
  • Strong understanding of recovery‑focused and harm‑reduction approaches.
  • Experience managing caseloads and delivering person‑centred support plans.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report‑writing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary environments.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and risk management.
  • Confidence working within secure or challenging settings.

Desirable

  • Experience working within prison, probation, custodial, or immigration removal centre environments.
  • Relevant qualifications in Health & Social Care, Substance Misuse, Counselling, or Criminal Justice.
  • Knowledge of psychosocial interventions and trauma‑informed practice.
