An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Support Accountant to join Shropshire Council in Shrewsbury. This six-month contract offers a competitive hourly rate and is ideal for a qualified accountant looking to apply their expertise in a flexible and supportive environment. The role is primarily home-based, with only occasional office attendance required.

What you will do:

Provide specialist financial support in developing the DSG management plan.
Ensure financial models are robust, accurate, and data-driven.
Conduct scenario planning and financial modelling to support the Medium Term Financial Plan (MTFP).
Work collaboratively with the Education team, Children’s Services Finance Business Partner, and DSG Funding Coordinator.
Continue providing financial support to Education teams following submission of the plan in June.
Contribute to strategic financial planning and reporting processes.

Requirements:

Qualified Accountant status (CIPFA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent).
Strong financial modelling and scenario planning experience.
Excellent analytical and communication skills.
Experience within local government or public sector finance is advantageous.
