Accounts Assistant
Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum (DOE)
Location: Stoke-on-Trent
Hours: Monday to Friday, Full-Time (Flexible working hours available)
The Role
Our client is looking for a proactive, organised, and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join their growing team in Stoke-on-Trent. This is a varied and hands-on role that offers the opportunity to become an integral part of the business, supporting the day-to-day running of the finance function while also providing administrative support where required.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with key accounting processes, and ensuring the smooth operation of the accounts department. This position would suit someone with previous accounts experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, has excellent attention to detail, and takes pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Processing daily sales transactions accurately and efficiently
- Managing purchase invoices from receipt through to posting and payment
- Reconciling both sales and purchase ledgers to maintain accurate financial records
- Completing daily, weekly, and monthly bank and cash reconciliations
- Preparing supplier payment runs and processing payments for management authorisation
- Posting monthly journals and assisting with month-end accounting procedures
- Monitoring company cash flow and highlighting any issues or discrepancies
- Processing payroll accurately and on time while ensuring compliance with payroll legislation
- Maintaining confidential employee payroll and personnel records
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns in line with HMRC deadlines
- Supporting month-end and year-end financial processes where required
- Assisting with general bookkeeping and maintaining accurate accounting records
- Providing comprehensive administrative support to the finance department and wider business
- Filing, organising documentation, and ensuring financial records are maintained to a high standard
- Communicating professionally with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to resolve account queries
About You
To be successful in this role, you'll have previous experience working within an accounts and administration position and be confident managing a varied workload independently.
You'll also have:
- Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Accounts Administrator, Finance Assistant, or similar role
- Strong working knowledge of Xeroand SAGE 50
- Experience processing payroll and maintaining payroll records
- A solid understanding of bookkeeping principles and accounting processes
- Experience preparing VAT returns
- Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- The ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- A proactive attitude with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- A professional, reliable, and positive approach to work
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
