Social Worker – Children in Need Team

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Social Worker to join the Children in Need Team within the London Borough of Islington. This is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of children, young people, and families by providing high-quality, child-centred social work.

The successful candidate will undertake statutory social work in line with legislation and best practice, ensuring that children are safeguarded and supported to achieve positive outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out child-centred assessments in line with statutory guidance and local thresholds of need.
  • Develop, implement, and review care and support plans that promote safety, stability, and positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • Work in partnership with families, carers, and multi-agency professionals to deliver coordinated and effective interventions.
  • Act as the lead professional in multi-agency settings, facilitating collaboration and effective decision-making.
  • Identify risks to children and take appropriate safeguarding actions in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and present high-quality reports for court proceedings, case conferences, and professional meetings.
  • Manage a caseload effectively, ensuring compliance with statutory timescales and service standards.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date case records in accordance with professional and local authority requirements.
  • Contribute to service development by sharing expertise and providing constructive feedback.
  • Participate in regular supervision, performance appraisal, and continuous professional development activities.

Person Specification

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
  • Demonstrable experience in statutory children’s social work, ideally within a Children in Need or Safeguarding setting.
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and frameworks (e.g. Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children).
  • Excellent assessment, report writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multi-agency partners.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work within statutory deadlines.
