The Opportunity
Are you a recent Psychology graduate passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? A friendly and inclusive primary school in Birmingham is seeking a dedicated Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2025.
This full-time, term-time only position offers an excellent opportunity for aspiring Educational or Clinical Psychologists, SEN professionals, or future teachers. You’ll gain hands-on experience working closely with pupils with a range of needs—including autism, ADHD, and emotional or behavioural difficulties—in a supportive and nurturing school environment.
Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant – Key Responsibilities
- Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
- Assist with delivering bespoke academic and behavioural interventions
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement effective support strategies
- Foster emotional wellbeing, confidence, and resilience among pupils
- Help adapt learning materials to meet individual needs
- Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and encouraging classroom atmosphere
Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant – Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for empathetic and committed graduates who meet the following criteria:
- A minimum 2:1 degree in Psychology or a related discipline
- A strong interest in SEN, inclusive education, and child development
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
- A patient, proactive, and caring approach
- Prior experience supporting young people with SEN (e.g., in schools, care, youth work, or tutoring) is desirable
- Clear ambition to pursue a career in education, psychology, or SEN support
