Role Purpose:

To deliver statutory social work services that safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people with disabilities. The role covers assessment, planning, intervention, and review functions in relation to children in need, child protection, children in care, and care leavers with complex additional needs.


Core Responsibilities:

Statutory Case Management

  • Manage a caseload of children and young people aged 0–18 with a range of complex disabilities and support needs.

  • Deliver interventions under Section 17 (Child in Need), Section 47 (Child Protection), and Looked After Child (LAC) frameworks.

Assessment and Planning

  • Undertake Child and Family Assessments and contribute to Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Plans.

  • Develop personalised care and support plans, focusing on outcomes for children and their families.

Safeguarding and Risk Management

  • Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns.

  • Participate in strategy discussions, lead core group meetings, and contribute to Child Protection Conferences and LAC reviews.

Multi-Agency Working

  • Collaborate with professionals across health, education, therapy services, early help, and the voluntary sector to deliver holistic support.

Direct Engagement

  • Build meaningful relationships with children and families using strength-based, person-centred approaches.

  • Adapt communication to meet individual needs, including sensory and non-verbal methods.

Court Work

  • Prepare comprehensive reports and court statements as required.

  • Support children at risk of family breakdown through effective legal planning.

Case Recording and Compliance

  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate case records in line with statutory requirements and local authority procedures.


Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

  • Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification

  • Registration with Social Work England

  • Experience in statutory children’s social care

  • Working knowledge of the Children Act 1989, SEND Code of Practice, and safeguarding legislation

  • Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills

  • Confidence in managing competing priorities and working independently

  • Proficient in IT and digital case management systems

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a Children with Disabilities Team

  • Understanding of autism, sensory processing differences, and physical health needs

  • Familiarity with Direct Payments, Personal Budgets, and transition planning

  • Experience using Liquidlogic case management system
