We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior / Lead Planner to support two strategic tenders for a major client in the energy transmission sector. This opportunity requires a professional with strong planning expertise in tightly regulated environments and infrastructure delivery.

This hybrid role will evolve into a delivery-focused position, where you will manage construction schedules for a portfolio of projects in the energy sector. You will work with bid teams to develop schedules during the tender phase and take full ownership of the construction programme through project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop tender schedules from Invitation to Tender (ITT) documentation.
  • Liaise with stakeholders across disciplines to integrate their input into the master schedule.
  • Facilitate interactive planning workshops to derive optimal construction sequences.
  • Establish cost- and resource-loaded, logic-linked baseline plans in alignment with client and company requirements.
  • Capture project budgets and phase expenditure timelines within plans.
  • Establish Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and Project Control Structures in line with scope.
  • Collaborate with Bid Managers to define project activities and durations.
  • Challenge input to ensure compatibility with SHEQ, constraints, and client requirements.
  • Interface with other departments to identify cross-functional impacts.
  • Facilitate full scope acceptance into the plan and ensure schedules are achievable and aligned with objectives.
  • Maintain project baselines and document all changes in compliance with procedures.
  • Ensure changes to schedules and their impacts are clearly communicated to all stakeholders.
  • Evaluate schedule impacts due to client instructions or variations.
  • Identify risks and assess uncertainty using Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis (e.g., Primavera Risk Analysis).
  • Integrate third-party schedules and interfaces.
  • Collaborate closely with project controls teams to align scheduling and cost positions.
  • Comply with and client governance at all project stages.
  • Contribute to the development of standardised Integrated Project Controls across the energy sector.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of HNC/HND in Construction or a related discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • CSCS Manager Card (or equivalent).
  • Qualification or substantial demonstrable experience in project planning and scheduling.

Experience

  • Proven experience across full project lifecycle (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning).
  • Experience working on EPC/EPCm projects on brownfield transmission sites.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering complex capital projects in regulated sectors, ideally National Grid or similar.
  • Familiarity with scheduling standards such as NG/ET/SR193 (a strong advantage).
  • Extensive Primavera P6 experience essential.
  • Skilled in resource- and cost-loaded plan development.
  • Able to lead multi-disciplinary inputs and facilitate planning buy-in.
  • Confident working with estimating, scheduling, and risk analysis tools.
  • Experienced in Earned Value Management and delay assessments.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard contracts and contract compliance in scheduling.

Key Skills & Personal Attributes

  • High attention to detail; meticulous and methodical approach
  • Strong analytical and numerical capability
  • Quality and customer focused
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Confident team collaborator and independent contributor
  • Capable of prioritising under pressure and delivering to deadlines
