New role for a Civil Inspector in AWE working outside IR35!

 

Role Purpose:

 

To provide inspection and quality assurance oversight of civil and structural works, ensuring construction activities comply with design specifications, relevant codes, and standards, and AWE’s quality requirements — contributing to the delivery of safe, secure, and high-quality facilities.

 


 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Conduct routine inspections of civil construction works including foundations, concrete structures, drainage, steelwork, groundworks, and building fabric.

  • Verify that materials, workmanship, and installations meet the approved drawings, specifications, and applicable British/European Standards.

  • Produce detailed inspection reports and non-conformance reports (NCRs) when deviations are found.

  • Liaise with contractors, designers, and site management to resolve quality and compliance issues.

  • Ensure that construction activities adhere to AWE’s nuclear safety, security, and environmental policies.

  • Support audits, surveillance, and testing activities, including witness and hold points.

  • Monitor and verify records of materials, batch certificates, and other quality documentation.

  • Participate in risk assessments, method statement reviews, and permit systems where required.

  • Provide feedback to improve quality processes and procedures.

 


 

Qualifications & Experience Required:

 

Essential:

 

  • ONC/HNC or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.

  • Relevant site-based civil inspection experience within nuclear, defence, or high-security construction environments.

  • Strong knowledge of UK construction standards, Building Regulations, and applicable codes (e.g., BS EN 1992 – Eurocode 2, BS EN 206 for concrete).

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.

  • Competent in producing quality inspection reports and documentation.

  • Good understanding of construction health & safety practices (CDM 2015 Regulations).

 

Desirable:

 

  • CSCS Card (appropriate level).

  • Certified in Inspection (e.g., ICorr, CQI, or similar).

  • Experience with nuclear or high-hazard facilities.

  • Familiarity with nuclear-specific standards (e.g., ONR, ASME, RCC codes).
