Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant: Person Specification
- Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant role: Must have a 2:1 or above (achieved or predicted) from a leading university in any subject
- A genuine desire to work with children aged 4–11, supporting their learning, confidence and wellbeing
- The flexibility and adaptability to work across different year groups as needed
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build warm and effective relationships with pupils, staff and parents
- A calm, patient and positive approach, with a willingness to contribute to all aspects of school life
- Prior experience working with children (e.g. tutoring, mentoring, summer camps, sports coaching, youth work, or school volunteering) is helpful but not essential.
- A longer-term interest in teaching, child psychology, educational research or pastoral care would be an advantage
Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant: Role Specification
As a Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside outstanding class teachers and experienced support staff, contributing to high-quality teaching and tailored support for pupils at every stage of their primary education.
As a Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in whole-class teaching, small group work, and targeted one-to-one support.
- Supporting early reading, phonics and numeracy sessions (particularly in Early Years and Key Stage 1).
- Helping to differentiate learning activities for pupils of varying abilities, including those with additional needs.
- Encouraging pupils’ personal, social, and emotional development throughout the school day.
- Supporting teachers with lesson preparation, resource development, and classroom organisation.
- Participating in playground supervision, school assemblies, clubs, and enrichment activities.
- Receiving ongoing training, mentoring and professional development to prepare you for future roles in education.
- This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm, during term time.
Multiple Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant roles are available from September 2025.
