Role Overview – STEM Graduate Teaching Assistant
As a STEM Graduate Teaching Assistant in Spelthorne, you will work alongside experienced teachers to enhance students’ understanding and passion for STEM. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Delivering targeted support sessions in core STEM subjects such as Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Engineering
- Leading small-group and 1:1 interventions designed to close knowledge gaps or challenge high-achieving pupils
- Assisting with lesson planning, resource preparation, and, where appropriate, delivering parts of lessons
- Offering study skills guidance and mentoring, particularly as students prepare for GCSEs and A-Levels
- Gaining valuable hands-on teaching experience while exploring different pedagogical methods
This full-time position is ideal for STEM graduates who aspire to train as teachers, pursue PGCE qualifications, or develop a career within education, research, or technology sectors.
Who We’re Looking For – STEM Graduate Teaching Assistant
The perfect STEM Graduate Teaching Assistant candidate will have:
- A strong academic background with a minimum 2:1 in a STEM-related degree (e.g., Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Computer Science)
- Confidence and competence in supporting students across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 experience is advantageous)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and motivate learners
- A flexible, proactive attitude, adapting to individual student needs with patience and enthusiasm
- Experience working with young people through tutoring, mentoring, or volunteering is preferred but not essential
