Senior Social Worker – Mental Health Team

Role Overview:

A rewarding opportunity for an experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join the Mental Health Team in Wandsworth. This role offers the chance to provide essential mental health support within a collaborative, flexible, and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out AMHP duties within the dedicated daytime mental health team, including conducting Mental Health Act assessments.

  • Supervise and support other AMHPs, contributing to a learning-focused team culture.

  • Participate in the management team to assist with work allocation, performance monitoring, and resolution of practice issues.

  • Maintain a small caseload of social supervision cases, ensuring person-centred care and compliance with statutory responsibilities.

  • Work closely with the council and external partners to deliver integrated, high-quality services.

  • Provide urgent, in-person assessment support when necessary (e.g., at A&E), requiring flexibility and proximity to Wandsworth or Twickenham offices.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England.

  • AMHP qualification is essential with active approval to practise.

  • Strong working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and related legislation.

  • Experience supervising or mentoring social work professionals is highly desirable.

  • Ability to manage complex cases while contributing to wider service development.
