What you will do

• Case Management: Manage a complex caseload of children and young people with disabilities, ensuring all work is completed within statutory timescales.
• Statutory Intervention: Undertake Child in Need, Child Protection, Looked After Children, and care proceedings work where required.
• Assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessments in accordance with the Children Act 1989 and relevant legislation.
• Care Planning: Develop, implement, and review child-centred plans that promote independence, wellbeing, and positive outcomes.
• Family Support: Work collaboratively with families to build on strengths, reduce risks, and provide effective support.
• Safeguarding: Lead safeguarding enquiries, strategy discussions, and child protection interventions to ensure children remain safe.
• Multi-Agency Working: Coordinate support with education, health professionals, and partner agencies to deliver holistic care.
• Meetings and Reviews: Attend and contribute to child protection conferences, core group meetings, looked after reviews, and court hearings.
• Report Writing: Prepare high-quality reports for statutory reviews, court proceedings, and professional meetings.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records using the council's electronic case management system.
• Mentoring: Provide guidance, support, and mentoring to less experienced colleagues to promote professional development.
• Service Development: Contribute to quality assurance processes, service development initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Social Work Qualification: Degree in Social Work or equivalent recognised qualification.
• Registration: Current Social Work England registration.
• Experience: Significant post-qualification experience within Children's Social Care.
• Children with Disabilities Experience: Previous experience supporting children and young people with disabilities is highly desirable.
• Safeguarding Expertise: Strong experience in child protection, safeguarding, and statutory intervention work.
• Legislative Knowledge: Thorough understanding of the Children Act 1989, safeguarding legislation, and relevant statutory guidance.
• Leadership Skills: Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting colleagues within a social work setting.
• Communication Skills: Excellent assessment, analytical, report-writing, and interpersonal abilities.
• Court Experience: Experience preparing court reports and participating in legal proceedings where required.
