Slitting Operative in Crewe, North West

KPI Recruiting are on the look out for a Slitting Operative for our client based in Crewe.

As a Slitting Operative your hours and days are:

• Monday- Friday
• 06:00- 18:00/ 18:00- 06:00 (rotating)

The rate of pay as a Slitting Operative is:

• £13.00 - £15.06 p/h

The duties and responsibilities as a Slitting Operative are:

Machine Operation

• Set up and operate slitting machines according to job specifications, production schedules, and customer requirements
• Ensure machinery is correctly configured for material type, roll size, and production specifications
• Monitor machine performance throughout production runs to ensure optimal efficiency and product quality
• Adjust machine settings as required to maintain production standards

Material Handling

• Load and unload parent rolls and finished products using hoists, lifting equipment, and handling devices
• Safely move materials within the production area while adhering to company health and safety procedures
• Verify material identification and ensure correct materials are used for each production order

Quality Control

• Measure and inspect finished rolls to verify width, cut accuracy, tension, and material integrity
• Conduct regular quality checks throughout production runs
• Identify defects, inconsistencies, or quality issues and take appropriate corrective action
• Ensure finished products meet customer specifications and company quality standards

Troubleshooting and Maintenance

• Perform basic machine troubleshooting and resolve minor operational issues
• Report equipment faults, breakdowns, or maintenance requirements promptly
• Assist with routine machine maintenance and cleaning activities
• Work closely with maintenance personnel to minimise downtime

Qualifications and Experience needed as a Slitting Operative:

Essential Requirements

• Secondary school education
• Minimum 1–2 years of experience operating slitting machines, preferably within flexible packaging, converting, manufacturing, or related industries
• Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to read and interpret work orders, artwork, production specifications, and technical instructions
• Experience using measuring tools such as rulers and gauges
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality products
• Ability to lift and handle heavy material rolls safely
• Ability to stand for extended periods during shift operations
• Willingness to work within a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment
• Good communication and organisational skill

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience operating specific slitting equipment such as Dusenbery, Kampf, Atlas, or similar machinery
• Knowledge of flexible packaging materials including PET, PE, BOPP, and laminated structures
• Familiarity with ERP systems, production tracking software, or manufacturing management systems
• Previous experience within a high-volume manufacturing or converting environment
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
