Retail Area Manager - Midlands in West Midlands

RETAIL AREA MANAGER

Area: MIDLANDS

SALARY: £42,000 - £45,000 per year

The Area Manager is responsible for overseeing the performance and operations of multiple retail stores within the Midlands area, ensuring high standards of customer experience, commercial performance, and operational compliance.

This role focuses on driving sales growth, developing high-performing store teams, and ensuring consistent execution of company standards across all locations.

The Area Manager works closely with Store Managers and wider business functions to deliver business objectives, proactively identify opportunities, and resolve operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

• People Management & Development:
o Recruit, train, and develop Store Managers and their teams across the area.
o Build strong succession plans to support colleague progression and internal development.
o Coach and support Store Managers to improve leadership capability and team performance.
o Drive engagement by creating a positive and high-performance culture across all stores.
o Manage performance, absence, and conduct in line with company policies.
o Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and structured development plans.
• Store Operations & Compliance:
o Maintain a strong understanding of day-to-day store operations across the region.
o Ensure all stores operate in line with health & safety policies and procedures.
o Monitor compliance across key areas including cash handling, pricing, and internal processes.
o Ensure all stores maintain high standards of presentation, cleanliness, and organisation.
o Respond quickly and effectively to operational issues, escalating where necessary.
o Maintain store visit reports & follow-ups.
o Make decisions on priorities and performance interventions.
o Resolve operational and people challenges.
• Budget & Cost Management:
o Manage the area payroll budget as set by the leadership team, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently & in line with demand.
o Ensure the effective and correct management of the payroll system, colleagues assigned to the correct role, pay, shift and keep starters and leavers up to date.
o Coach and support each store with their understanding on budgets and rota maintenance to ensure KPI target is met.
o Prepare reports on operational costs and identify potential areas for savings.

• Sales & Commercial Performance:
o Set clear sales performance goals and KPIs for each store.
o Monitor performance across the region, identifying risks and opportunities.
o Support stores in achieving and exceeding targets through coaching and action planning.
o Drive key metrics such as ATV, LFL growth, margin, and upselling.
o Ensure consistent execution of promotional activity and commercial initiatives.
• Loss Prevention & Risk Management:
o Take overall accountability for shrinkage performance across the region.
o Ensure loss prevention policies and procedures are consistently followed.

The Area Manager plays a critical role in building leadership capability within stores, ensuring strong succession planning and continuous development across the area.
