An excellent opportunity has arisen for a qualified Probation Officer to join the Child and Youth Justice Service based at County Hall in Preston. This six-month full-time assignment offers a competitive hourly rate of £21.14 and provides the chance to work across Central and East Lancashire, supporting children and young people within both custody and community settings. Role Responsibilities

Supervise and support children and young people in custody and in the community, particularly those assessed as high-risk.

Undertake risk and needs assessments using Youth Justice Service frameworks, including AssetPlus.

Develop, implement, and review tailored intervention plans to support rehabilitation and positive behavioural change.

Prepare high-quality reports for Youth and Crown Courts, ensuring accuracy and adherence to statutory requirements.

Work closely with partner agencies to promote coordinated support for children and their families.

Champion diversity, inclusion, trauma-informed practice, and restorative approaches within all aspects of the role.
Requirements

Qualified Probation Officer (preferred) or Qualified Social Worker (considered).

Registration with the appropriate governing body.

Proven experience working with children and young people within the criminal justice system.

Ability and willingness to travel across Central and East Lancashire.

Strong commitment to child-centred, evidence-based, and trauma-informed practice.
