Principal Civil Design Engineer in Manchester, Lancashire

Lead the Design of Critical Water Infrastructure Projects and Shape Engineering Excellence!

Our Client has a requirement for a Principal Civil Design Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract or permanent basis in the North of England.

Role Purpose:

• Provide technical leadership across major water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Lead the development and assurance of complex civil engineering designs.
• Support major project bids and technical strategy.
• Mentor and develop engineering teams.
• Drive innovation, quality and engineering best practice.
• Deliver safe, sustainable and cost-effective engineering solutions.
• Job Role Responsibilities:
• Lead and coordinate complex civil engineering designs within the water sector.
• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams.
• Develop innovative, practical and risk-balanced engineering solutions.
• Ensure designs are safe, compliant, buildable and cost-effective.
• Produce, review and approve design calculations, specifications, drawings and documentation.
• Support project bids and successful project delivery.
• Maintain engineering governance and quality standards.
• Manage technical delivery against programme, cost and resource requirements.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks.
• Build strong relationships with clients, contractors and stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop engineers across the business.
• Promote continuous improvement and engineering excellence.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
Essential

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent).
• Significant experience within the UK water and wastewater industry.
• Strong understanding of water and sewage treatment principles and associated civil infrastructure.
• Demonstrable experience leading multidisciplinary engineering design projects.
• Ability to develop practical, efficient and economical engineering solutions and plant layouts.
• Broad understanding of mechanical, electrical, process engineering and project management disciplines.
• Excellent technical judgement and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to confidently present technical solutions to clients and project teams.
• Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver quality outcomes to programme.

Desirable

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
• Experience acting as a design reviewer, approver or technical signatory.
• Established network within the UK water sector.
• Experience managing or mentoring engineering teams.
• Knowledge of relevant UK water industry standards, specifications and regulations.
