Leeds Secondary & Specialist Schools | Full-Time, Long-Term | Up to £560 per week

The Role

We are recruiting Graduate Speech and Language Teaching Assistants to support students aged 11-16 with a range of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), both in mainstream secondary settings and specialist schools.

Working closely with SENCOs, teaching staff, pastoral teams and external professionals, you will support students through:

• One-to-one interventions
• Small group communication sessions
• Classroom-based support
• Development of speech, language and social communication skills
• Implementation of EHCP targets and personalised support plans
• Monitoring progress and contributing to student reviews
• Promoting confidence, independence and inclusion throughout the school day

In specialist settings, you may also support students with autism, complex communication needs, learning difficulties and additional SEND requirements, gaining valuable experience working within multidisciplinary teams.

Who We're Looking For

• A degree in Speech and Language Therapy, Psychology, Education, Linguistics, Childhood Studies or a related subject
• Graduates awaiting final results are welcome to apply
• A genuine passion for supporting young people's development and wellbeing
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• A proactive, patient and compassionate approach
• Enhanced DBS on the Child Workforce Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

Desirable Experience

• School, SEND, care, youth work or mentoring experience
• Knowledge of speech, language and communication needs
• Experience supporting young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Understanding of EHCPs and inclusive educational practices
• An enthusiastic and solution-focused mindset
