We are working with a supportive and inclusive secondary school in Birmingham who are looking for an enthusiastic Graduate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate looking to gain valuable, hands-on experience in education, particularly if you are considering a future career in teaching, SEND, educational psychology, speech and language or pastoral support.
The Role
As a Graduate SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional support to access the curriculum and engage positively with school life.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group supportto students with additional needs
- Supporting students to access lessons and participate fully in learning
- Helping students develop confidence, independence and social skills
- Adapting support to meet individual students' needs
- Working alongside teachers and the wider SEND team to support student progress
- Supporting students who may have communication, social, emotional or behavioural needs
- Encouraging positive engagement and helping students overcome barriers to learning
- Providing a calm, patient and consistent presence throughout the school day
- Acting as a positive role model and advocate for students
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will be:
- A graduatewith a minimum 2:1 degree
- Passionate about supporting children and young people
- Patient, empathetic and resilient
- A confident and effective communicator
- Able to build positive relationships with students
- Comfortable working with students with a range of additional needs
- Proactive, adaptable and willing to learn
- Interested in developing a long-term career within education or SEND
Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEND, is desirable but not essential. The school is looking for graduates with the right attitude, strong interpersonal skills and a genuine commitment to helping students succeed.
