Graduate Pastoral & Behaviour Mentor

Wolverhampton | Full-Time | £20,000-£25,000

Help young people find their confidence and their direction

Are you a graduate who wants to do something meaningful with your degree and make a positive impact on young people's lives?

Do you have the confidence, patience and resilience to support students who may face challenges with behaviour, attendance or engagement?

We are working with a supportive secondary school in Wolverhampton who are looking for an enthusiastic Graduate Pastoral & Behaviour Mentor to join their team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience within education while developing the skills needed for a future career in teaching, pastoral care, youth work, psychology or SEND.

The Role

You'll work closely with students who need additional encouragement and guidance to engage positively with school.

Whether you're helping a student manage their behaviour, rebuild their confidence or simply providing a consistent adult presence during the school day, you'll play an important role in helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group mentoring
  • Developing positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Supporting young people with behaviour, attendance and engagement
  • Helping students develop confidence, resilience and independence
  • Encouraging positive choices and attitudes towards school
  • Supporting students who may have additional needs or challenging circumstances
  • Helping identify barriers that may be affecting students' learning or progress
  • Working alongside teachers and the wider pastoral team
  • Supporting a calm, positive and inclusive school environment
  • Acting as a reliable and consistent role model for young people

What are we looking for?

We're looking for a graduate who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them reach their potential.

You'll ideally have:

  • A minimum 2:1 degree
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A confident, approachable and professional manner
  • Patience, resilience and empathy
  • The ability to establish positive relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • The confidence to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations
  • A proactive and positive attitude
  • An interest in developing a long-term career working with young people

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential.

Experience in tutoring, mentoring, coaching, volunteering, youth work or similar settings would be advantageous, but we're also interested in graduates who can demonstrate the right attitude, personality and commitment to supporting students.

What can you gain from the role?

This is an opportunity to gain genuine hands-on experience within a secondary school and develop practical skills that will be valuable throughout your career.

You'll develop experience in:

  • Supporting young people's behaviour and wellbeing
  • Building effective professional relationships
  • Mentoring and motivating students
  • Identifying barriers to learning
  • Supporting students with different needs and circumstances
  • Working alongside teachers and experienced pastoral professionals
  • Developing your communication, confidence and professional skills

The role could be particularly valuable for graduates considering teacher training, youth work, educational psychology, counselling, SEND or wider pastoral careers.

Ready to make an impact?

If you're a graduate who wants to support young people, gain valuable school experience and build a career helping others, we'd love to hear from you.
