Are you a graduate who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning?

Would you like to gain practical experience in a secondary school while developing your understanding of Special Educational Needs?

We are looking for a dedicated Graduate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join an inclusive secondary school in Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate who wants to gain meaningful experience working with students and is considering a future career in teaching, SEN, educational psychology or another education-based profession.

The Role

As a Graduate LSA, you'll work closely with teachers and the school's wider support team to help students get the most from their education.

You'll provide tailored support to students with a range of additional needs, helping them to access learning, develop their independence and grow in confidence.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group supportto students with SEN
  • Supporting students to access classroom learning and activities
  • Helping pupils stay focused, engaged and motivated
  • Reinforcing learning and adapting support to suit individual needs
  • Supporting students with their social, emotional and communication skills
  • Assisting teachers with differentiated activities and learning tasks
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and wider support staff
  • Sharing relevant observations around student progress and wellbeing
  • Encouraging students to develop greater confidence and independence

Students may have a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD and dyslexia.

Who are we looking for?

We're keen to hear from graduates who have:

  • A strong academic background, ideally a 2:1 degree or above
  • A genuine interest in supporting young people and their learning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, resilience and empathy
  • A positive and adaptable approach
  • The ability to build strong relationships with students
  • A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential.

Whether you've gained experience through tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, coaching or another setting, we'd love to hear from you. Most importantly, you'll need the right attitude, compassion and enthusiasm to make a positive difference.
