A welcoming secondary school in Solihull is seeking a passionate Graduate English Teaching Assistant to join its team. This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your subject knowledge in a real classroom while helping students develop their literacy, confidence and academic skills.
What will you be doing?
Working alongside experienced English teachers, you'll provide additional support to students across the English curriculum. You'll help pupils tackle challenging texts, improve their written work and develop the confidence to express and analyse their ideas.
You'll support students 1:1, in small groups and within the wider classroom, gaining valuable experience of working with learners of different abilities.
Key responsibilities
As a Graduate English Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small-group supportacross English and English Literature
- Help students strengthen their reading, writing and comprehension skills
- Support pupils with essay writing, literary analysis and structuring their ideas
- Assist teachers with differentiated activities and classroom tasks
- Encourage students to engage positively with English and literature
- Help learners build confidence and develop independent study habits
- Provide additional literacy support where required
- Work closely with English teachers and other members of the school team
- Share observations and feedback on student progress where appropriate
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for a graduate who has:
- An English, English Literature or closely related degree, ideally at 2:1 or above
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent subject knowledge and enthusiasm for English
- A genuine interest in working with young people
- Patience, resilience and a positive attitude
- Previous experience working with children or young people (desirable, but not essential)
You don't need previous classroom experience. If you're confident, enthusiastic and passionate about helping young people develop, this could be an ideal opportunity to start building your career in education.
