Our Client has a requirement for a Conventional Safety and CDM Advisor, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Birchwood.
Role Purpose:
- Provide and lead Conventional Health and Safety within design projects to ensure safety is a key design consideration, making sure projects are safe to build and operate.
- Provide Health & Safety and CDM advice and support within projects to support effective delivery whilst meeting legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Promote Health & Safety in design through safety campaigns and engagement activities.
- Act as an integral part of the engineering management function, leading and participating in Conventional Safety and CDM forums whilst engaging with stakeholders, customers and regulators.
Job Role Responsibilities:
- Lead Conventional Health & Safety within design projects.
- Proactively promote understanding of health and safety in design among designers.
- Provide design health & safety advice throughout the design process from conception to completed build.
- Chair and facilitate hazard studies, including plant modifications, and proactively work with design teams to identify, eliminate or manage conventional risks.
- Assist with assurance reviews where required.
- Provide health & safety input into constructability and design reviews and relevant safety documentation.
- Develop Conventional Safety Strategies and Conventional Safety Reports for new and existing structures, ensuring they are proportionate to project risk profiles.
- Assist the Principal Designer in complying with duties under the CDM Regulations.
- Support designers in the development of CDM Designer Risk Assessments and application of the principles of prevention and hierarchy of control.
- Ensure residual risks are appropriately recorded and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
- Support the completion of Health and Safety Files and advise on project requirements.
- Support interactions with regulators and act as the subject matter expert for conventional safety in design.
- Author, review and approve design safety procedures, policies and guidance documentation.
- Ensure changes in regulatory and compliance requirements are communicated effectively.
- Maintain continuing professional development and appropriate professional memberships.
- Engage with wider safety and CDM communities to share lessons learned and best practice.
- Support design safety campaigns and provide coaching to design teams where required.
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
- NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health (or equivalent demonstrable training and experience).
- Chartered Member of IOSH (or equivalent) or working towards chartership.
- Several years' experience in a Conventional Safety and/or CDM Design role within the nuclear industry or a similar high-risk industry.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations.
- Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders, regulators and multidisciplinary project teams.
