Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist looking to broaden your expertise across both acute and community settings? We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join the Acute and Community Team in Carlisle.

This full-time ongoing locum position offers an attractive rate of up to £26.00 per hour, depending on experience, and provides the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to adult patients at Cumberland Infirmary and within the wider community.

You’ll manage a specialist caseload focused on communication and dysphagia, while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, person-centred care. What you will do:

  • Manage a specialist caseload of adults presenting with communication and swallowing difficulties.
  • Undertake comprehensive Speech and Language Therapy assessments across acute and community settings.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat adults with a range of communication disorders.
  • Conduct specialist dysphagia assessments and develop appropriate management plans.
  • Develop and implement individualised, evidence-based treatment programmes.
  • Deliver targeted communication and swallowing interventions based on patient needs and goals.
  • Provide training and education to healthcare professionals, carers, patients, and external agencies.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and integrated patient care.
  • Supervise and support Speech and Language Therapy students and therapy assistants.
  • Produce detailed clinical reports and maintain accurate and timely patient records.
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement projects, and service development initiatives.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of high-quality Speech and Language Therapy services.

Essential requirements:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Previous experience working with adults within Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Experience managing a specialist caseload independently.
  • Experience assessing and managing communication disorders and dysphagia.
  • Ability to develop and deliver evidence-based treatment and rehabilitation programmes.
  • Strong communication, clinical reasoning, organisational, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to delivering person-centred and clinically effective care.
