Role Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Advanced Practitioner to join the Safeguarding Team in the London Borough of Havering. As an Advanced Practitioner, you will support the Team Manager by overseeing complex cases, providing practice leadership, and ensuring high‑quality safeguarding practice across the service. You will play a pivotal role in strengthening frontline safeguarding responses while mentoring less experienced colleagues to drive excellence, consistency, and positive outcomes for children and families.

Key Responsibilities / What You Will Do

  • Manage a protected caseload of complex safeguarding cases involving children at risk of harm.
  • Provide expert professional guidance, mentoring, and supervision to social workers.
  • Lead and contribute to statutory safeguarding processes, including:
    • Strategy discussions
    • Child protection conferences
    • Multi‑agency meetings
  • Conduct and oversee robust assessments in line with the Children Act 1989, Children Act 2004, and relevant statutory guidance.
  • Support the Team Manager in maintaining high practice standards and service performance.
  • Ensure accurate, timely recording of case information, decisions, and actions.
  • Collaborate effectively with partner agencies such as education, police, health, and voluntary services.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and practice development across the service.

Requirements / Candidate Criteria

Essential

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work degree or equivalent.
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Significant post‑qualification experience in children’s safeguarding services.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, statutory responsibilities, and best practice guidance.
  • Experience managing complex child protection and court‑related cases.
  • Ability to mentor, supervise, and support other practitioners.

Desirable

  • Previous experience as an Advanced Practitioner or Senior Social Worker.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Experience within a London borough safeguarding team.
